We have to learn how to recognize our own emotional capacities.
Sometimes, we have the capacity to take on more than other times. Right now, I recognize my emotional capacity is very low. I’m having a hard time keeping up with the most basic of daily tasks, and I definitely don’t have the emotional capacity to be there for others as much as I would like to.
This week, I can feel myself shutting down, isolating. I had to take a full day for myself to recharge. That meant saying no to spending time with people, saying no to working out, saying no to talking to people. I spent an entire day with just myself and my dog, and it was honestly exactly what I needed.
Living in a fast-paced society like ours makes it difficult to take days off. We’re raised to believe that productivity is always the answer, but that’s just not true. We all need to slow down and take time for ourselves. We need to learn how to say no when we don’t have the capacity to be productive. By taking a day off, you’re not going to miss out on anything.
Let yourself take a break. Let yourself say no. Take the time you need to emotionally recharge. It’s going to be okay.
