Sometimes, life gets difficult and you just don’t have the energy to practice self-care the way you normally do.
This week has been a rough week—one of the roughest I’ve had in a while—and I didn’t want to take time to practice self-care. For that reason, this week’s blog is going to represent my own self-care. I’ll be talking about simple ways to practice self-care when you don’t feel like practicing self-care.
I always take it back to basics when I have to simplify my self-care routine. Usually when I’m having a difficult time, taking care of myself is the last thing I want to do, so I do my best to take care of my space. I’ll do the dishes, clean the bathroom, do laundry, or do whatever else I can do to take up time and distract myself.
Keeping my space clean and organized, especially when I don’t feel clean and organized myself, is so important. I’ve been so busy and stressed the past few weeks that I haven’t had the time to keep up on some of my household chores, so when I take the time to do them, I feel so much better. The other day, I pulled my fall and winter clothes out of storage and put away a lot of my summer clothes. It took a couple of hours to go through everything and decide what I wanted to store and what I wanted to keep out, but it’s something I’d been wanting to do for a couple of weeks. After I finished organizing everything, I felt happier.
Getting things done around my apartment and being productive is my favorite way to practice self-care when I’m feeling down. I encourage you all to find your favorite simple self-care practices for when you don’t feel like practicing self-care. Maybe it’s going back to an old hobby, maybe it’s cleaning, maybe it’s just sitting down and re-watching your favorite movies or shows. Whatever it is, just keep practicing it and being intentional about it.
As always, stay safe + stay healthy.
