This week for #freeyourmindfriday, Emily Sanders, LMFT, took over our Instagram stories to talk about mental health and therapy. Check out her bio below!
Hi! My name is Emily and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California. I practice privately in Orange County, and I absolutely love what I do. I’ve been practicing since 2012, and see couples and individual clients ages 16 and up. My areas of focus include anxiety, perfectionism, life transition, and relationship issues.
I am passionate about all things therapy: my own therapy, practicing the art of therapy, demystifying how therapy works, and the growth that therapy can bring.
Some of the things you’ll hear me preaching repeatedly are:
– Everyone can benefit from therapy, regardless of whether they are currently suffering from a mental illness or not.
– Not all therapists are created equal; some therapists excel at what they do, some are horrible at what they do.
– Not all therapists work the same way; we all have different ways we approach treatment, and we all have different personalities. Trust your gut when you’re looking for a therapist. If something seems off, then it is. Move on and try again.
– Your therapy is private; it is about you and for you. What you choose to share with others is your choice! But, your therapy should help you connect with others in your life in a healthy way.
I look forward to spending the day with you!
