This week for #WarriorWednesday, Arlo Speaking, a 22-year-old singer-songwriter and university student, shared her #iAM1N5 journey of living with an anxiety disorder, ADHD and a bug phobia. At age 9, Arlo and her family moved to a new town with a new school, and that’s when she began to develop acne. She says living with acne on top of meeting new friends and adjusting to a new home made things much more difficult. At age 14, she began going to therapy and did not enjoy it. When she was 17, she was admitted to an inpatient program in the psychiatric division of a local hospital. She continued a rigorous outpatient program afterward, and she began learning coping mechanisms to live with her mental illnesses. Now, she is back in her home town working to build a community of understanding, supportive and open-minded people who are on their journey of mental health exploration and self-acceptance.
