Self-Care Guest Blog by Kaitlyn

Hello! My name is Kaitlyn and I am a graphic design intern at 1N5. I am entering my senior year at Xavier University studying Graphic Design and Digital Media. At Xavier, I have gotten involved in many different clubs and activities that I absolutely love which include 4 Paws for Ability, rock climbing, and pep band. Aside from that, I love creating art both digitally and any random crafts I can teach myself.

Self-care is something I am still learning to do. I love to have go, go, go kind of days which leaves me burnt out sometimes. I have a hard time calming my mind but I have found a couple of activities that are great for my self-care. I have always tried meditation and journaling but I am always worried about other things I could be doing and it never actually relaxed me.

Instead, I found other ways to take care of myself. One of the big ones I love doing is puzzles. I will put a show on and work on a puzzle, I could sit there for hours. That always makes me happy and relaxed. Another thing that I do is different crafting projects. Sometimes it involves sewing, like when I made my own bucket hat (I also love bucket hats) or sometimes it involves corks to make decorations for the holidays.

I am also learning how to find a balance between alone time and hanging out with my friends. Sometimes plans too often can get overwhelming and I am learning when I need to pass on some plans so I don’t get burnt out. While I want to make the best of every moment with my friends it is also important to take care of yourself.

I would encourage others to find what makes them happy and take some time to do that every couple of weeks. Schedule time even if you have a busy schedule because it is important. It doesn’t have to be meditation or journaling, it can be reading a book, doing a puzzle or even just watching your favorite show or movie.
