Ways to Incorporate Gratitude into Your Self-Care Practice

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Gratitude is such an important part of self-care, and it’s probably the biggest part of my self-care journey. Practicing gratitude has given me a whole new outlook on life, and it’s helped me to become a more positive person both towards myself and toward others.

Starting a gratitude practice can seem daunting and time-consuming, but it doesn’t have to be. Here’s a list of ways I began incorporating gratitude into my daily practice without taking up too much extra time out of my day.

  1. Make a mental note of everything you’re grateful for when you wake up.
  2. Think about gratitude when you’re drinking your morning coffee or tea.
  3. Practice gratitude when you start to feel angry or discontent, like when you’re sitting in traffic.
  4. Make a habit of thanking the people you are grateful for.
  5. As you’re winding down for the day, think about everything that happened that day that made you grateful.

Of course, there are many other ways to incorporate gratitude into your daily self-care practice. You can start a gratitude journal, carve out time for mindfulness and gratitude work through meditation, set a daily gratitude reminder on your phone, or anything that will get you in the habit of practicing gratitude.

Starting your gratitude journey doesn’t have to be scary, and it doesn’t have to take up too much time out of your day. Start small, and keep at it. It’s okay if you miss a day or two, just start back up the next day.

As always, stay safe + stay healthy.
