This week for #freeyourmindfriday, Suhani Prakash, a 13-year-old clothing designer and mental health advocate, took over our Instagram stories. Check out her bio below!
Hi! My name is Suhani Prakash. I am 13 years old, and I am the founder of @adastra_aa! While I do not struggle with a mental illness myself, I have seen its impact on my friends and community, and I am very passionate about helping to #stopthestigma. I am also a very creative person, so I decided to combine my interests and create a nonprofit that donated to mental health organizations. I named my business Ad Astra, a shortened version of the Latin term Ad Astra per Aspera. That means to the stars through hardships. I hope that my customers realize that whatever they are going through, there is a brighter future awaiting them. The stars are our guiding light and are here to help us navigate whatever life throws in our way. So, I created the zodiac sweatshirt, a comfy crewneck offered in white, navy, and black, and custom-made to each person’s constellation. I like that my product is very personal, and allows people to feel loved and supported. With my profits, my goal was to raise money for 1N5, and with the support of my community, I was able to raise $500! The zodiac crewnecks were such an amazing start to my business and I am excited to announce that I have an incoming summer line, which can hopefully raise even more money for this organization that does so much for me and my community! Instead of releasing just one product, the summer line will consist of six! I am so grateful to 1N5 for giving me this opportunity to take over, and I can’t wait to talk to you guys! Follow me for updates on my new line, and remember that you are loved and appreciated and that your stars will always be there to guide you home.
