Dr. Scott Talks #BlackMentalHealthAwareness

Dr. Angela M. Scott, Ph.D. and Staff Psychologist in the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, is back this week in honor of #BlackMentalHealthAwarenessMonth to talk about African American mental health, and specifically mental health among African American youth. She notes the uptick in suicidality of African American adolescents over the past few years.

Although African Americans are just as likely as other groups to experience mental illness, Dr. Scott notes that they are actually less likely to seek professional help when needed. Follow along as Dr. Scott talks about the various concerns and issues—including access, stigma, and the mistrust of the medical and mental health field—African American folks face when seeking mental health treatment and how the mental health field is combatting these issues!
