School Psychology Grad Student Takes Over Insta

This week for #freeyourmindfriday, Sandhya, a grad student and mental health advocate studying school psychology, took over our Insta stories to talk about mental health and healing. Check out her bio below!

Hi! I’m Sandhya, but you can call me Sands! I’m 25 years old, a mental health advocate, and I’m from India. I love to read, I want to travel, and I’m extremely awkward at introductions. I’m also currently in grad school for School Psychology in New Jersey.

I’ve been struggling with anxiety and depression for around 2 years. I have had to miss work, I have been admitted to the psychiatry ward, I am on medications and I am in therapy. There have been days where I can barely get out of bed or talk to people. I went from being very sociable and energetic and on top of assignments to being drained with no social energy and difficulty coping with simple tasks.
However, that isn’t the end of my story and that isn’t the end of your story, either. I am proud to say that I am coping and growing and healing and learning to take it one day at a time. As for you, I understand that some days feel terrible and it feels like it’s going to last forever, but you will get through it. One day at a time, one step at a time, and sometimes one hour at a time. So this is your #freeyourmindfriday encouragement to keep going! Because you are strong and you got this! There is no shame in asking for help, going to therapy, or taking medications. So keep going to therapy, keep taking those medications and keep being an awesome human being!
