2020 Has Only Made You Stronger

What a whirlwind 2020 has been. Many of us will look back at this year of all that it took from us. 2020 has been incredibly difficult.

2020 has taken away security in so many ways, it has taken away stability, it has taken away coping mechanisms that we once had, like spending time with friends and family or playing the sport that brought us joy. This year will undoubtedly go down as one of the most difficult years that our generation has had to face.

We honestly don’t know what 2021 will bring. Many of us are excited to put 2020 away and move forward. 2021 may be a tough for some part of the year too, we really can’t be sure, but the one thing we can be sure of, is how incredibly strong you are, and that you can get through next year, or any future year, or even just a really terrible day, because you have gotten through this year.

You have survived the ups and downs, the constant sadness and unknowns. You have survived the fear and the loss and the struggle. You have survived the judgement from others. You have survived online learning and Zoom meetings galore. You have survived. You did that.

So next year, and every year moving forward, I hope you always remember how wildly strong you are. It has been no easy feat, but you have come out on the other side. You may be hurting right now and might not feel strong, but I really hope that you take some time to look back at all you have endured and give yourself permission to recognize your strength, determination, and your relentless effort to take care of yourself in these challenging times.

Each year closing provides a space for self-reflection. My 2020 had it’s highs and lows. I went from being terrified of my business going under, to having one of the most successful years to date. I had a big wedding planned and was heartbroken to have to downsize and relocate, but then we got married in the most magical place, my childhood home, and had the most amazing day. I thought my mom was in the clear with her cancer, just to hear it came back in a very aggressive way, just to have her do treatment alone in a hospital again, but this has only continously made us closer.

2020 has been good and it’s been bad. It’s helped us to slow down and it’s helped us to grow. No matter what your year looked like, remember that you are not alone and it is okay to be struggling about what you missed out on this year.

But know that strength runs through you. Take time to reflect on this year and know that with every day you get stronger. As we leave 2020 behind, and embark into 2021, I hope you realize that in 2019 you were already strong, but look at all you have endured, you are now even stronger than before.

Xo,
