Take a break. You’re worth it.
The truest words to be spoken. If you’ve been following along with my recent posts, then you know I’ve been struggling a lot lately. I’ve been putting pressure on myself like no other which has led me to be self-critical and overwork myself. In turn, I’ve felt disconnected, helpless and emotional. I knew I needed a break, something that’s really hard for me to do.
I have become so used to working every single day. I know I need to become better at setting boundaries. As I write this, I am proud of myself for taking this whole weekend off, spending time on a little vacation and spending time reconnecting with myself, with my husband, with nature, with the world. I didn’t check email, I barely used social media and I took time to disconnect so that I could reconnect. I definitely don’t feel 100% better, but it was nice to feel like myself again and to laugh and play and just be.
Sometimes we need to slow down. My coach always said we need to slow down to speed up. To get to where we want to be, we have to take care of ourselves. We have to pause and breathe and relax and give ourselves what we need. If we just go and go and go, we only break, we only disconnect, we only start struggling more. So today, I challenge you to take a break. I challenge you to schedule your next day off. I want you to be intentional about taking care of yourself.
In a culture that encourages you to overwork, I encourage you to challenge that culture and remind yourself that you are your best self when you take that break, and remember that you are more than your work and your deadlines and your to-do list. You deserve to live a life full of joy and happiness. Work is important, but you and your mental wellbeing are even more important.
I probably won’t be the best with taking breaks moving forward, but I know I will be more intentional in trying, and that is more than enough. Cheers to putting ourselves first, because we deserve it.
Xo,
