William Shares His #iAM1N5 Journey…

Meet William Raschke, a 34-year-old father of 4 living with borderline personality disorder, PTSD and generalized anxiety. William remembers his first diagnosis around 2nd grade. He was diagnosed with ADHD, and he recalls being very anxious, disruptive and depressed throughout elementary school. He was later diagnosed with generalized anxiety when working to get into the Coast Guard. After a while, he stopped caring about life. He would go out a lot, drink a lot, and just didn’t want to be around anymore. He was very against treatment at first, and he didn’t want to talk to anyone or admit what was happening in his mind for fear of judgment.

Eventually, he began seeing a therapist and working through his trauma. Now, he says the best thing for his mental wellness has been finding other people that deal with the same or similar things and realizing that he is not alone. He says there will always be people willing to help, and you should never be afraid to advocate for yourself. Now, he spends much of his time at the Queen City Grappling Club and encourages others to find an outlet to work through whatever may be going on in their minds!
